The Cybersquatting Phenomenon, Protect Your Trademarks!

Cybersquatting is also known as domain squatting. It has emerged quickly since 2011 when the authority that controls generic top level domains (gTLDs) decided to expand these and allow companies to apply for new ones. Companies wanting to protect their trademarks can file a complaint with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). The USA is the top country to file domain name cases and retail is the top industry. The most active anti-cybersquatting company is tobacco giant Philip Morris.  The infographic below, which was compiled by Irishapps.org describes cybersquatting in more detail.
